Tilde Grynnerup Danish, 1973
"I work very freely. When I get an idea for a sculpture, I am able to carry it out as soon as I go to my workshop in the countryside, surrounded by a little forest."
Tilde Grynnerup (b. 1973) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Working across different media such as textile, wood, installation, conceptual photography, and film, she loves to explore different materials to create her artworks. She likes to explore and experiment with different media, following Meret Oppenheim’s saying: “Nobody will give you freedom. You have to take it”.
Having spent a decade writing songs, and another decade working with fashion, she creates works of art, combining words and textile. Her woodworking technique and craftsmanship skills are inherited from her carpenter father with whom she shares a wood workshop by a small forest. The interaction between the countryside nature and her studio in the city is her perfect balance – just like the interaction between working with soft materials like textile and hard materials like brass and wood.
Driven by social indignation and a general curiosity about people and life, she wants to spark joy and wonder, wanting to communicate a thought or a feeling. Something true and profound.
