Paréidolie: Marseille, France

28 - 30 Août 2026
Présentation
MABE Gallery is delighted to announce its very first participation in an art fair, on the occasion of Paréidolie, the International Contemporary Drawing Fair, taking place in Marseille from August 28 to 30, 2026. We are particularly pleased to present the works of Agnès Bourély and Nicolas Muller, two artists whose drawing unfolds through gestural processes grounded in rhythm, repetition, and chance. Their works on paper draw on unforeseen, sometimes chaotic gestures that either order the compositions or, conversely, tear through rigorous formal structures. Nourished by an intimate memory of carceral space, tied to years spent near prisons, Nicolas Muller's practice interrogates standardized architectures, signs of authority, and their potential alteration. Through erasure, effacement, or fading, the drawing becomes a vertical surface under tension, a wall both rigid and wavering, caught between presence and withdrawal. Agnès Bourély creates unstable zones on paper where consciousness and abandon, mastery and doubt intersect. The sheet is traversed by a gestural energy that embraces uncertainty as a condition of creation. Weaves, interlacings, and networks of more slowly executed forms cover the interstices and empty zones of the paper, entering into dialogue with the expressiveness of a paint splatter or spilled ink. Between lightning-quick gestures and patiently repeated ones, the works on the stand combine effacement and profusion, building a visual rhythm.
