Cristina Alabau Spanish, 1963

Biographie
"Ideas go so fast that we don't know what awaits us."
Cristina Alabau is a painter from Valencia, Spain. Her work reflects a consistent visual language of poetic abstraction that seeks to capture inner emotions and states of contemplation.

Elegant and contemplative, her paintings construct intimate universes composed of simple, yet symbolic forms. Often created on large square canvases with clear and neutral backgrounds, her compositions revolve around three recurring themes: man, nature, and time. Through these motifs, her work explores the relationship between the individual and the natural world. Influenced by the Mediterranean light, her creations focus on atmosphere, softness, and clarity.

Alabau’s practice also includes collage, watercolour, drawing, and sculpture. In watercolour, her forms become more fluid and spontaneous. In recent years, she has incorporated Murano glass sculptures, translucent and fragile pieces that emphasize subtle color and material.

Her work has been exhibited widely in Spain and internationally, including in Madrid, Valencia, Girona, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Tokyo, with exhibitions at venues such as Atarazanas in Valencia, Elephant Gallery, Galería Alba Cabrera, Galería El Coleccionista, and Goyabi Gallery in Japan.
