Olga Burkard

Olga Burkard is a Swiss-Mexican visual artist based in Geneva. Her work explores the coexistence of living systems and the relationships that connect organic and constructed forms. Through abstract and intuitive compositions, she reflects on how systems interact, adapt, and exist together in continuous dialogue.

Often incorporating intricate geometric shapes and textures, Burkard’s fascination with patterns began in childhood while playing with fabric scraps in her mother’s tailoring atelier. This early exposure to materials, texture, and design nurtured the curiosity for detail and repetition that continues to shape her artistic language.

Raised in Mexico and later established in Switzerland, her practice is informed by a balance of cultural influences. She studied graphic design at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and completed an MFA in Design at the Basel School of Design. This background informs her approach, where clarity and structure meet intuition and organic growth.

Working between pixels and paint – both made by hand with different tools – Burkard creates layered compositions that echo natural rhythms and evolving systems. Simple forms repeat, shift, and expand into complex visual structures that evoke the interconnected patterns of living environments.

After a long international career in design and art direction, Burkard has worked full-time as an artist since 2024. Her work has been exhibited in Switzerland and the United States and is held in private collections in more than ten countries. She is a member of Visarte Switzerland and is represented by MABE Gallery in Geneva and EDNA Contemporary in San Luis Obispo, California.
